I saw this excellent piece of design at the Central Saint Martins Product Design degree show. It caught my attention because of its simplicity. This image may look like an a ordinary draw, but its clever use of elastic to hold this draw together instantly changes our perception of something ordinary to a product of desire. So subtle it becomes beautiful. No need for nasty glues that make porous surfaces look so cheap. The elastic doesn’t just hold the draw together it allows the front section to open and close. As you pull down the front section it stretches the elastic to open the draw. This project designed by the up and coming talented designer, Josiah Emsley for Habitat (final degree ‘client’ project). The draws are die-cut natural cairn board, with a length of elastic to hold the structure tight.
