It’s great to see artwork positioned in the eye of the artist not contained and forced between four walls of a museum.Antony Gormley’s exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, 2007, swept across London’s skyline. Blind light’s was a fantastic exhibition full of experiences including a ‘steamroom’ and a fantastic balcony area where you could look across the Thames and discover these iron cast Gormley figures standing proud across the capital. While cycling around London each day I would notice a new figure which further continued this experience. It’s really great to see the public interacting with these sculptures and made the Londoner look up with a different focus in mind.
This Gormley sculpture is positioned on the roof of Pentagram’s New York Office and looks over Madison Square Park. Event Horizon is the U.S. public art debut of the acclaimed British sculptor Antony Gormley, presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy as part of its Mad. Sq. Art series. The installation of 31 life-size body forms of Gormley cast in iron and fiberglass has inhabited the streets and skyline around Madison Square Park since March.
